ABOUT THE ARTIST

Whether it is neon-drenched abstract representations of mighty archangels or swirling, intricate dimensions yet to be experienced, artist Karan Singh Grover’s creations are a complete expression of his spirituality.

Even as a child, the self-taught artist believed there was more to the world than meets the eye. However, him embracing art as an extension of his spiritual self only began in 2016, when, encouraged by his wife, he began to draw and paint extensively. “I bought acrylic paints, black pens and spray paints - I didn’t know where to start at first. But, once I started experimenting, mostly in black pen and ink, a pattern emerged, and I realised I was drawing in sequence,” says the artist. This led to the creation of his first series - Ascension, a concept that also dictates much of his other works - a spiritual quest to find one’s higher self.

While the artist draws from different belief systems, his ultimate aim is to express his truth. “For me art is freedom, freedom of expression and thought. It comes from my heart. Through my art I’ve understood several things and see it as a space where I’m constantly learning more about myself and the world around me”.

While working on his second series, 7 Archangels or the 7 Colours of the Rainbow, he drew a symbol he had never witnessed before on the artwork titled ‘Raphael/Green’. “Somehow, I knew that the symbol represented the artist within me. I call it STAR INFINITY, after all, we are all star seeds and the soul is infinite,” the artist explains. Now, the symbol - a cosmic signature of sorts - adorns each of his works.

The artist, who also practises calligraphy, also channelled unknown symbols and characters and inscribed it in many of his works. These appeared to him during the creation of his artworks, quite serendipitously. This marks a continuation of the artist’s disposition towards all that is mystical.
